SEAToday.com, Jakarta - On Monday (8/19), President Joko Widodo and Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi were honored to receive awards from the Palestinian government. The awards were presented by the Palestinian president's special envoy, Riyad Al Maliki, at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta.
President Jokowi was honored with the "Grand Collar Order of the State of Palestine". At the same time, Foreign Minister Retno was graciously presented with the "Star of Merit of the Order of the State of Palestine".
Through Riyad Al Maliki, President Mahmoud Abbas expressed appreciation to Indonesia for its role in supporting the Palestinian people's struggle, including Indonesia's efforts to advocate for a ceasefire, humanitarian assistance, and a two-state solution.
During the meeting, President Jokowi and Foreign Minister Retno also took the opportunity to reaffirm Indonesia's position on the ongoing efforts to support Palestine.
"The point is not in the medal, but in our consistency in defending Palestine because it is following our constitutional mandate," Retno said.
This award emphasizes the close diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Palestine, as well as Indonesia's commitment in supporting Palestinian rights on the international stage.
Apart from giving awards, the Special Envoy also conveyed congratulations from President Abbas to President Jokowi and all Indonesian people on the 79th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia.
