SEAToday.com, Paris - The Seine River is one of the venues for the Paris 2024 Olympic Triathlon as well as the venue for the Opening Ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics, which takes place on Friday (7/26). This is the first time in history that the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games did not take place in a stadium.

Seine River is one of the most iconic rivers in the world. It has inspired several paintings by famous painters such as Claude Monet and Vincent van Gogh, depicting the beauty of the river in different seasons and light conditions. 

In addition, the Seine is often featured in films as a symbol of beauty and romance, such as “Inception”, “Midnight in Paris”, and most recently, “Under Paris”.

2. UNESCO World Heritage Site

 

The banks of the Seine River in Paris have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1991. This designation recognizes the historical and cultural value of the area, which includes many historic buildings, museums, and beautiful parks.

3. Nicknamed the “Garbage Bank”

 

Behind its beauty, the Seine River is nicknamed the “Garbage Bank” due to the large amount of garbage found around the river. Not only domestic waste, the Seine is also polluted with industrial waste.

4. High Levels of Water Pollution

 

According to a report by Environmental Science & Technology, industrial and household waste that has polluted the Seine over the years can endanger the water ecosystem and human health.

Paris authorities have spent 1.4 billion euros or about 24.7 trillion rupiah to clean up the Seine River ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympics.
