SEAToday.com, Jakarta - The United States (US) has canceled Indonesia's debt of 35 million US dollars, or about 565.53 billion rupiah, in exchange for coral reef conservation efforts. This agreement was confirmed during a meeting between Indonesian Finance Minister Sri Mulyani and US Assistant Secretary Alexia Latortue on Thursday (11/7).
Minister Mulyani subsequently announced the deal on her Instagram account on Friday (7/12), highlighting its role in strengthening Indonesia's ongoing marine and coral conservation efforts.
According to information on the official website of the US Embassy in Indonesia, this debt-for-nature swap agreement signed since on Wednesday (7/3). Chargé d'Affaires ad Interim (KUAI) Michael Kleine emphasized the deal's significance as a symbol of US-Indonesia cooperation in strategic partnerships.
