SEAToday.com, Jakarta - The Jakarta Provincial Government is drafting a regulation to impose criminal penalties on those caught dumping waste illegally.

The Regional Regulation Formation Agency (Bapemperda) of the Jakarta Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) is collaborating with the Provincial Government to formulate a specific article within the draft Regional Regulation (Raperda) on Wastewater Management.

Currently, a lack of clear and strict regulations makes it difficult for the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) to penalize offenders.

According to Vice Chairman of DPRD’s Bapemperda Abdurrahman Suhaimi on Tuesday (7/2), this regulation has the potential to gain public attention. He emphasizes the detrimental impact of indiscriminate waste disposal, including domestic waste, feces, and commercial waste, on the community. He believes criminal sanctions can act as a deterrent to potential offenders.
