Thailand-Laos Railway Connection Will Begin Full Trial Run This Month

SEAToday.com, Bangkok-According to the state railway of Thailand or S-R-T, Thailand and Laos are preparing to construct a railway network that will connect Bangkok and Vientiane. A trial run is scheduled for later this month.

The initiative intends to improve transport connectivity and product movement between the two countries, as well as elevate the region's logistics system, with Thailand serving as a hub.

According to the head of the S-R-T Governor's office Ekkarat Sriarayanpong, S-R-T Deputy Governor Awirut Thongnet, met with Lao National Railways Managing Director Daochinda Siharath.

They discuss the launch of a train service between Bangkok's Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Station and Vientiane's Khamsavath.

Topics of discussion included the operation plan for train services running on the Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Station-Udon Thani-Nong Khai-Vientiane section. A trial run is scheduled to take place from June 13 to 14.

Other topics discussed were tourism market development, advertising and public relations, also ways to improve cargo shipping between Thailand, Laos and China.

Additionally, the S-R-T has also trained the Lao Railway workforce in areas such as train operations, station management, and ticket sales.
