Thai Government Issues Warning Due to A Sulfuric Acid Leak from Laos into The Mekong River

SEAToday.com, Thailand-The truck carrying more than thirty tons of acid overturned, spilling the dangerous material into the Nam Khan River, which flows into the Mekong.

Residents have been told to keep a close eye on the water quality in seven provinces along the Mekong River. The provinces are Loei, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Nakhon Phanom, Mukdahan, Amnat Charoen and Ubon Ratchathani.

According to estimates made by the Office of The National Water Resources, the chemical will pass through Loei’s Chiang Khan area, between April 8 and April 10.

Meanwhile, Minister of Higher Education Science Research and Innovation, Supamas Isarabhakdi, has gathered a Department of Science Service Emergency reaction team. This team’s job is to monitor the quality of water in the provinces stated above and evaluate any possible effects on the environment.
