Residents of Putrajaya Have Higher Rate of Obesity and Cholesterol Compared to The Nation’s Average

SEAToday.com, Putrajaya-Minister in the Prime Minister's Department for Federal Territories, Dr Zaliha Mustafa, disclosed that Putrajaya residents are faced with concerning health issues such as rising rates of high blood pressure, obesity, and a lack of physical activity.The minister also disclosed that these health risks are the highest in Putrajaya compared to the national average.

Moreover, the Health Ministry's statistics also highlight Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur residents as having the highest rates of anxiety and depression."This is actually rather worrying and intervention is needed by all parties, including the proactive role played by our sports bodies, she told reporters after attending a MADANI aid handover to the sports bodies in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya on Tuesday, March 5.

Additionally, as an effort to combat this health problem, Dr Zaliha Mustafa stressed the importance of sports organizations in promoting an active lifestyle. She also revealed a 282-thousand Malaysian ringgit or 67-thousand U.S. dollars aid package for 86 sports organizations.

This financial support is part of a broader effort to enhance sports facilities and opportunities, aiming to elevate the public's quality of life through increased physical activity. "We will do the best we can to provide the best opportunities and facilities for development, especially in sports aspects, to create a healthy city," Dr Zaliha stated. (ANDIN/ALVIN)
