SEAToday.com, Singapore-Former Singapore Transport Minister S Iswaran arrived at the district court on Thursday (1/18) morning, accompanied by his legal team. Iswaran is being charged with various offenses including corruption and graft while he was a state official.
The 61-year-old was charged with 27 counts, including 24 counts of receiving gratuities, two counts of corruption, and one count of obstructing justice.
The Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB), in a statement, said Iswaran is alleged to have received bribes worth 384,340.98 Singapore dollars, or 4.47 billion rupiah, from property tycoon Ong Beng Seng. Some of which were used to advance Ong's business.
Iswaran has served as Transport Minister since May 2021 and has resigned as a minister, MP, and member of the People's Action Party on Tuesday (1/16).
