SEAToday.com, Bogor - Deputy Minister of Public Works (Wamen PU) Diana Kusumastuti stressed the urgency of taking swift action to address the impact of the Ciliwung River flood in Cisarua, Bogor. She highlighted that the recovery efforts must be carried out in an integrated manner, involving the West Java Provincial Government and the Bogor Regency Government, including the relocation of residents living along the riverbanks.

"Six bridges were destroyed due to the flood. I also remind everyone that the construction of bridges crossing rivers should first receive technical recommendations from the Directorate General of Water Resources at the Ministry of Public Works. I observed that several rivers are obstructed by improperly designed bridge structures," she stated in a written statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Diana expressed her sympathy for the residents affected by the disaster, as heavy rainfall led to flash floods and the destruction of bridges that serve as crucial access routes for the community.

"My deepest sympathies go out to those affected by the flood, both those still in shelters and those who have returned home," she said.

Additionally, Diana urged residents not to build settlements along the riverbanks, as this can narrow the river and exacerbate flooding.

"I have observed that rivers, which were once wide, are now narrowing due to numerous houses being built along the banks. Water will always find its way, so I strongly hope that this area will no longer be inhabited," she explained.

During her visit, Diana personally inspected the evacuation sites of flood-affected residents in Tugu Village, Cisarua, Bogor Regency. The heavy rainfall that struck the Puncak area of Bogor on Sunday (March 2) caused a significant rise in water levels in the upper Ciliwung River, leading to flooding in residential areas and damaging several bridges.

She also inspected the Hankam Bridge in Cisarua, which was destroyed by the flood. This bridge serves as a vital access route connecting Lewimalang and Jogjogan Villages.

Furthermore, Diana visited the Ciawi dry dam, located downstream from the flood-affected area. The dam is designed to hold up to 6.05 million cubic meters of water, covering a flooded area of 39.40 hectares, and can reduce flood discharge by approximately 111.75 cubic meters per second before the water flows into Jakarta via the Katulampa Weir and the Ciliwung River.
