Elon Musk Agrees with Proposal for the U.S. to Leave the UN and NATO

SEAToday.com, Moscow - Elon Musk, the American billionaire and a key supporter of Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign, has agreed with the idea of the U.S. withdrawing from the United Nations (UN) and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
At the end of February, the Republican Party in the U.S. Senate proposed a bill urging the U.S. to completely withdraw from the UN. The bill also called for an end to all U.S. funding for the organization and prohibited the country’s involvement in UN peacekeeping missions.
Meanwhile, on Saturday (3/1), Republican Senator Mike Lee, in several posts on X (formerly Twitter), encouraged Washington to also leave NATO.
Responding to a post by American political commentator Gunther Eagleman, who stated that it was time for the U.S. to leave NATO and the UN, Musk replied briefly, "I agree," on the same platform on Saturday night.
Previously, after being inaugurated on January 20, 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order to withdraw the U.S. from the World Health Organization (WHO), citing unfair funding policies.
Trump has also frequently criticized European nations for contributing too little to NATO’s defense. He has demanded that all member countries increase their defense spending to five percent of their respective GDPs.
In February, American entrepreneur and podcaster Patrick Bet-David stated in an interview with RIA Novosti that Trump paid little attention to NATO allies in Europe because he "is not a supporter of NATO."
