Mimika Police: Fiersa Besari Has Been Evacuated from Carstensz Peak

SEAToday.com, Timika - The Mimika Police, Central Papua, confirmed that Indonesian musician Fiersa Besari and his group, who climbed Carstensz Pyramid, have been successfully evacuated.
"Fiersa Besari and his group are now staying at a hotel in Timika," said Mimika Police Chief AKBP Billyandha Hildiario Budiman to Antara in Timika on Sunday (2/3).
Hildiario explained that Fiersa Besari’s group was separate from the team of Elsa Laksono and Lilie Wijayanti Poegiono, the two climbers who died of hypothermia while ascending Carstensz Pyramid.
"According to data received on Saturday (1/3) at 22:48 WIT, Fiersa Besari and his group arrived at a temporary basecamp on Sunday (2/3) at 02:07 WIT. At the same time, it was reported that two climbers had passed away," he stated.
Currently, Elsa Laksono’s body has been evacuated to Mimika Regional Hospital, while the evacuation process for Lilie Wijayanti Poegiono is still ongoing. Both victims are scheduled to be flown to Jakarta on Monday (3/3) via Lion Air.
Meanwhile, Papua Police Public Relations Head, Kombes Pol. Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo, stated in a press release received by Antara that the climbers had taken a flight from Timika Airport to Yellow Valley on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, between 07:00 and 09:50 WIT, using a PT Komala Indonesia AS 350 B3 (PK-KIE) helicopter.
He added that PT Tropic Cartenz Jaya, as the official sponsor, had coordinated and collaborated with the police and the Timika Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) to evacuate the deceased climbers.
