Elsa Laksono, Lilie Wijayanti Die While Climbing Carstensz Pyramid in Papua

SEAToday.com, Timika - Mimika Police Chief AKBP Billyandha Hildiario Budiman confirmed that two female hikers from Jakarta and Bandung passed away due to hypothermia while climbing Carstensz Pyramid in Central Papua.
"Both hikers who passed away were registered as residents of Jakarta and Bandung based on their ID cards. Their cause of death is suspected to be hypothermia," said AKBP Billyandha in Timika, Central Papua, on Sunday (3/2).
The first victim, Elsa Laksono, died while descending from the summit. She was suspected of suffering from acute mountain sickness (AMS). Her body was evacuated to Mimika Regional Hospital on Sunday morning between 06:10 and 09:26 WIT.
The second victim, Lilie Wijayanti Poegiono, also suffered from AMS and was declared dead on Saturday (3/1) at around 02:07 WIT while descending from the summit. Before she was pronounced dead, fellow hikers and guides attempted to rescue her and brought her to a location known as Teras Dua. Her body is scheduled to be evacuated on Monday (3/3).
Both bodies are planned to be flown to Jakarta on Monday (3/3) using Lion Air.
