133 Indonesian Citizens Repatriated After Serving Sentences in Malaysia

SEAToday.com, Kuala Lumpur - A total of 133 Indonesian citizens (WNI) were repatriated to their home country on Tuesday (25/2) after completing their sentences in Malaysia for violating immigration regulations.

The Consular Function Coordinator of the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) in Johor Bahru, Jati H Winarto, stated that his team accompanied the repatriation process through Pasir Gudang Port in Johor Bahru.

This repatriation is part of Indonesia's efforts to protect its citizens abroad and was carried out in collaboration with KJRI Johor Bahru, the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Kuala Lumpur, and the Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) in Putrajaya.

The 133 repatriated Indonesian citizens traveled by ferry to Sri Bintan Pura Port in Tanjung Pinang, Riau Islands, after serving their sentences in six Malaysian immigration detention centers.

These detention centers include Pekan Nenas Depot (Johor), Kemayan Depot (Pahang), Lenggeng Depot (Negeri Sembilan), Beranang Depot (Selangor), Langkap Depot (Terengganu), and Ajil Depot (Perak).

The repatriated individuals had served their sentences for various violations, such as overstaying their visas, misusing work permits, or lacking legal documentation to stay in Malaysia.

According to Jati, upon arrival in Tanjung Pinang, the repatriated individuals will receive assistance from the Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Ministry (P2MI) or the Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Agency (BP2MI), along with other relevant authorities, to facilitate their return to their respective hometowns.

While waiting for their journey home, they will be accommodated at the Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Service Center (BP3MI) in the Riau Islands and the Protection and Trauma Recovery Center (RPTC) in Tanjung Pinang.
