SEAToday.com, Jakarta - The National Monument (Monas) will be temporarily closed to the public on Thursday (2/20) during the inauguration of regional heads at the Presidential Palace.

"Monas will be closed to the public until the inauguration ceremony is completed," said the Head of the Monas Area Management Unit (UPK), Muhammad Isa Sarnuri, in Jakarta on Wednesday (2/19).

The closure is intended to support the smooth execution of the inauguration of regional heads and their deputies. Isa estimated that the ceremony would conclude around 1:00 PM local time, after which Monas would reopen to visitors.

According to ANTARA data, the number of visitors to Monas varies depending on the day, season, and special events. On regular days, visitor numbers range between 10,000 and 20,000 per day, while during holidays or special events, the figure can increase significantly.

Earlier, 481 newly elected regional heads from the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections participated in a briefing and rehearsal at Monas on Tuesday (Feb 18). They wore white T-shirts and black training pants for the session, which was initiated by the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) as preparation before the official inauguration.

During the briefing, the elected regional heads also underwent marching drills led by the Special Staff of the Minister of Home Affairs, Inspector General Pol Herry Heryawan, starting at 7:00 AM local time.
