SEAToday.com, Cairo - The Egyptian government is currently drafting a reconstruction plan for Gaza in coordination with Palestine and Arab countries, with the support of the international community.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty stated this during a meeting with a U.S. Congressional delegation led by House Foreign Affairs Committee Vice Chairman Darrell Issa in Cairo on Sunday (2/16).

According to an official statement from Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abdelatty emphasized that Egypt is developing a phased recovery and reconstruction plan for Gaza to ensure that Palestinians remain on their land.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump previously proposed taking over Gaza and relocating its residents under a concept he called the "Middle East Riviera." However, this idea was widely rejected by Arab nations and the international community, as it was seen as a form of ethnic cleansing.

Abdelatty reaffirmed that Egypt is designing the Gaza reconstruction strategy in collaboration with the Palestinian Authority, Arab and Islamic countries, and the global community. He also highlighted the need for a long-term political solution to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and prevent recurring cycles of violence.

Egypt reiterated its support for the establishment of a unified Palestinian state encompassing the West Bank and Gaza, based on a two-state solution.

To this day, Israel continues to occupy Palestinian, Syrian, and Lebanese territories, refusing to withdraw or recognize an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital within the pre-1967 borders.

Abdelatty also expressed hope that the United States will continue to play a key role in ensuring the implementation of the Gaza ceasefire agreement and pressuring all parties to uphold their commitments. Additionally, he called for the accelerated and sustained delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, given the worsening conditions in the region.
