Heavy Rain and Flash Floods Hit Australia, Residents Urged to Stay Alert

SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Australia was hit by heavy rain and flash floods on Monday (2/10) as the rainy season set in. Sydney, the capital of New South Wales (NSW), was among the hardest-hit areas.

As quoted from Anadolu by ANTARA, in just one hour, rainfall reached 80 millimeters, causing water levels to rise and trapping several vehicles in floodwaters. Rescue teams were busy conducting 21 to 23 rescue operations, while emergency services received more than 550 calls for assistance. Although no injuries were reported, local authorities urged residents to stay indoors for safety.

The bad weather is expected to continue, with the potential for more storms. In addition to NSW, the state of Victoria is also facing a similar situation, with some areas recording over 100 millimeters of rain in a single day. This extreme weather has triggered more than 120 requests for assistance from affected residents.

In Northern Queensland, the situation is becoming increasingly concerning. After previously being hit by floods, the region is now expected to face another round of extreme weather with continuous heavy rainfall. Unfortunately, the disaster has already claimed lives. An 82-year-old woman was confirmed dead, making her the second victim of the floods in the area.

With flooding persisting for over 10 days, several residents remain trapped in their homes, waiting for help to arrive. As the weather conditions remain uncertain, people in the affected areas are advised to stay alert and follow instructions from authorities.
