Indonesian Ambassador Ensures the Safety of Indonesian Citizens in Orebro After Mass Shooting in Sweden

SEAToday.com,Jakarta - The Indonesian Ambassador to Sweden and Latvia, Kamapradipta Isnomo, confirmed that the condition of dozens of Indonesian citizens (WNI) in Orebro is safe following the mass shooting incident that took place in the city, which is about 200 km from Stockholm.

“We have been in communication with around 20 Indonesians in Orebro. Based on the communication we received, they are all safe,” said Ambassador Kama in an interview with ANTARA, who contacted him from Jakarta on Thursday.

Several Indonesians living near the incident site, specifically around the Risbergska Campus, expressed their fear after the incident. Local police advised them to stay indoors temporarily.

“There are two Indonesians attending school in the affected area, but they were not impacted because their school schedule runs from Wednesday to Friday,” added Ambassador Kama.

Additionally, some other Indonesians live around 15 to 20 minutes from the incident site and were not directly involved in the event.

The Indonesian Embassy in Stockholm has also issued a reminder for all Indonesians living in Sweden to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities or contact the embassy’s hotline at +46708251391.

According to the Indonesian Embassy’s data, around 1,500 Indonesians currently reside in Sweden, with 27 of them living in Orebro.

Meanwhile, the death toll from the shooting at a school in Orebro on Tuesday at 12:33 PM local time (6:33 PM WIB) has risen to 11. The suspect, identified as Rickard Andersson (35), also died in the tragedy.

Andersson was recorded as a Swedish citizen, born and raised in Sweden. Local police are still investigating the motive behind the shooting.

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson described the incident as the worst mass shooting in Sweden’s history.
