SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Coding and Artificial Intelligence (AI) will be introduced as optional subjects in schools starting from the 2025/2026 academic year, Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu'ti announced in a press conference on Sunday (2/2).

The initiative aims to equip students with technological skills aligned with the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision, fostering a generation that can leverage technology for positive advancements.

According to Minister Abdul Mu'ti, the subjects will be available in upper elementary and junior high schools, but only in institutions with sufficient infrastructure to support their implementation.

To ensure effective learning, the Ministry of Education and Culture will collaborate with the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) to develop a practical and accessible curriculum. Additionally, the government plans to conduct widespread socialization and provide teacher training to facilitate the transition.
