SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Foreign Minister Sugiono reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to fully supporting the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 during the ASEAN Foreign Ministers Retreat (AMM Retreat) held in Langkawi, Malaysia.

Sugiono stated that Indonesia fully supports the vision, which will be adopted under Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship. The vision aims to establish ASEAN as a resilient, dynamic, and sustainable region over the next two decades. This statement was conveyed in an official press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday.

The Foreign Minister highlighted that the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s "Asta Cita" priorities, which emphasize inclusive and sustainable development to benefit the broader community.

Sugiono also stressed the importance of strengthening ASEAN's institutional capacity and resources to achieve the vision, noting the increasingly complex and interconnected global challenges that require comprehensive cooperation within the region.

"Addressing these challenges in isolation is no longer feasible," he stated.

Regarding global developments, Sugiono welcomed the recently agreed ceasefire in Palestine. He emphasized that the agreement must be implemented promptly and comprehensively to allow the Palestinian people to rebuild their lives.

Sugiono further stated that lasting peace in Palestine can only be achieved if Israel ends its illegal occupation and allows for the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state.

"We must continue to push for the resumption of the peace process towards a Two-State Solution based on internationally agreed parameters," he said.

On regional issues, Sugiono highlighted the intensifying competition among major powers, which could impact regional stability. He underscored the importance of ASEAN unity and proactive engagement to ensure regional stability and prosperity.

The Foreign Minister also called for strengthening ASEAN’s mechanisms and institutions, including the ASEAN Regional Forum, East Asia Forum, and ASEAN Institute for Peace and Reconciliation (AIPR). He emphasized the significance of upholding regional principles and norms, such as the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation and the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific, to maintain stability.

Regarding Myanmar, Sugiono stressed that ASEAN must intensify its efforts to assist in resolving the crisis. He expressed full support for the ASEAN Chair’s Special Envoy in promoting the implementation of the Five-Point Consensus.
