SEAToday.com, Doha – Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani announced that a ceasefire agreement to halt Israel’s aggression in the Gaza Strip has been officially reached.

Al Thani made the announcement during a press conference in Doha on Wednesday (1/15), local time.

The ceasefire agreement, which aims to end Israel's aggression and the genocide that has devastated Gaza, consists of three phases and will take effect on Sunday (1/19), he stated.

Israel has continued its aggression in the Gaza Strip despite the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ordering an immediate halt to its attacks on Rafah in southern Gaza, which may violate the Genocide Convention.

Israel’s assault on Gaza, since on October 7, 2023, has resulted in the deaths of 46,707 Palestinians and injuries to 110,265 others.

Additionally, more than 10,000 people remain missing and are presumed buried under the rubble of homes destroyed by Israeli bombings in Gaza.

According to Palestinian authorities and international organizations, the majority of fatalities from Israel’s aggression are women and children.

The assault has also forced nearly two million Gaza residents to flee to Rafah, a city in southern Gaza near the Gaza-Egypt border, exacerbating overcrowding.

This displacement has triggered the largest refugee movement since the Nakba, the 1948 mass displacement during the establishment of the state of Israel.
