BBMKG Denpasar Issues Early Warning for 2.5-4 Meter High Waves

SEAToday.com, Denpasar - The Regional Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BBMKG) of Region III Denpasar has issued an early warning about the potential for high waves ranging from 2.5 to 4 meters in the southern part of the Bali Strait from January 13 to 16, 2025. The Head of BBMKG Region III Denpasar, Cahyo Nugroho, urged the public to stay updated on weather information and early warnings from BMKG, particularly regarding extreme weather conditions.
In addition to the southern part of the Bali Strait, waves up to 2.5 meters are also expected in the Badung Strait, the southern part of the Lombok Strait, and the southern waters of Bali. During this period, winds in northern Bali waters are expected to blow from the west-northwest at speeds of up to 15 knots, while in southern Bali waters, winds will blow from the west-northwest at similar speeds.
The Bali Strait serves as a ferry route between Gilimanuk Port (Bali) and Ketapang Port (East Java). The Lombok Strait connects Bali with West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), while the Badung Strait is used for fishing, tourism, and local crossings from Denpasar to Nusa Penida Island in Klungkung Regency. The southern waters of Bali are also important for tourism and fishing routes.
BBMKG emphasized that wind and high wave conditions pose risks to maritime safety. Fishermen, in particular, are advised to be cautious of wind speeds exceeding 15 knots and wave heights of more than 1.25 meters.
