Jimmy Carter, the 39th U.S. President, Dies at the Age of 100
SEAToday.com, Atlanta - Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States, passed away at the age of 100 on Sunday (12/30), at his home in the small town of Plains, Georgia.
“Our founder, former US President Jimmy Carter, passed away this afternoon in Plains, Georgia,” the Carter Center said on social media platform X. They added in a statement that he passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family.
As reactions poured in from around the world, President Joe Biden mourned Carter's passing, saying the world lost an “extraordinary leader, statesman, and humanitarian” and he lost a good friend. Biden cited Carter's efforts to eradicate disease, create peace, advance civil and human rights, encourage free and fair elections, and house the homeless as examples for others.
“For all the young people of this country and for anyone who is searching for what it means to live a life of purpose and meaning - a good life - learn from Jimmy Carter, a man of principle, faith and humility,” Biden said in a statement.
Biden also declared January 9 a National Day of Mourning across the country and ordered that US flags be flown at half-mast for 30 days from Sunday (12/30).
