EU Spokesperson: Member States “Under Obligation to Execute” ICC Arrest Warrant for Netanyahu
SEAToday.com, Brussel - All European Union member states “are under an obligation to execute arrest warrants issued by the ICC,” stated the EU Spokesperson Peter Stano, Thursday (11/28).
Quoting Anadolu, the written statement specifically noted the warrants issued by International Criminal Court (ICC) last week, for two top Israeli officials regarding the ongoing conflict on Gaza, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
Some EU countries were clear to announce that they would implement the warrant if those two officials set foot in the country. Some others were less clear while another said there would be no arrests.
On that note, Stano wrote that the EU is “strongly committed to international criminal justice and the fight against impunity”. He also said that the bloc supports the ICC and the Rome Statute, as well as the court’s “independence and impartiality”.
