SEAToday.com, Jakarta – Culture Minister Fadli Zon announced that Indonesia plans to submit three cultural heritages for recognition as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in December 2024.

"Over the years, we have intensified efforts to preserve our culture through tangible programs, such as submitting cultural heritage proposals to UNESCO. The next step is scheduled for December 2024," Fadli Zon stated during the 2024 Indonesian Cultural Heritage Appreciation (AWBI) event held in Jakarta on Saturday evening.

The three cultural heritages to be proposed are Reog Ponorogo, the Kolintang musical instrument, and kebaya traditional attire.

Submitting these cultural heritages is a strategic effort by the government to protect, preserve, and promote Indonesia’s cultural richness on a global stage. It also aims to highlight the cultural narratives and noble values these heritages carry, such as togetherness, mutual cooperation, and respect for diversity.

"We can confidently say that Indonesia is the most culturally rich country in the world. After traveling extensively, I have seen no nation with cultural wealth greater than Indonesia," said Fadli Zon.

He further emphasized other government initiatives, such as Law No. 5/2017 on the Promotion of Culture, which serves as a foundation for fostering cultural values, embracing cultural diversity, strengthening national identity, and unifying the nation.

Additionally, Law No. 11/2010 on Cultural Heritage underscores the government’s commitment to preserving, protecting, developing, and sustainably utilizing cultural heritage. This legislation reinforces cultural heritage as a vital part of national identity, education, and cultural development.
