SEAToday.com, Jakarta - The Royal Netherlands Government has returned 288 cultural artifacts from the Indonesian archipelago to their rightful home. The Dutch Colonial Collections Committee, chaired by Lilian Goncalves-Ho Kang You, recommended the repatriation.

The handover ceremony took place on Friday (9/20) local time at the Wereldmuseum Amsterdam, where the artifacts had been housed and displayed.

Dutch Minister of Education, Culture and Science Eppo Bruins announced in a press statement that this is the second repatriation of Indonesian and Sri Lankan cultural objects since mid-2023.

The returned artifacts include 284 historical items related to the Puputan Badung conflict, such as weapons, coins, and jewelry. Additionally, four Hindu-Buddhist statues of Bhairava, Nandi, Ganesha, and Brahma, originally from Java, were also returned. These statues had been brought to the Netherlands in the first half of the 19th century.
