Taman Safari Indonesia Welcomes Three New Species, Including Humboldt Penguins

SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Three new species were born at Taman Safari Indonesia in late 2024 across three different business units.
"The birth of these species is a tangible manifestation of the success of our breeding and conservation programs," said Alexander Zulkarnain, Senior Vice President of Marketing at TSI, in Cisarua, Bogor Regency, West Java, as reported by ANTARA.
The three species consist of five animals, namely one agile gibbon, two Bengal tigers, and two Humboldt penguins.
The two penguins hatched at Jakarta Aquarium & Safari (JAQS). These male penguins were named Flip and Flop through a contest involving hundreds of Instagram participants.
JAQS is now home to eight Humboldt penguins. Humboldt penguins originate from the Pacific coasts of Peru and Chile.
These animals provide an edutainment experience for visitors while raising awareness of the importance of conserving endangered species like penguins, whose populations are increasingly threatened.
Meanwhile, an agile gibbon was born at Solo Safari, Central Java, to the pair Galih and Shinta. The male baby was named Ron and increased the population of agile gibbons at Solo Safari to six individuals.
Ron was born healthy and can be seen by visitors. His birth is a significant milestone in the conservation efforts of this species, which is known to be threatened by hunting and habitat loss due to deforestation.
Lastly, two male Bengal tiger cubs named Bima and Bisma were born at The Grand Taman Safari Prigen, East Java. They were born to the Bengal tiger pair Kayla and Anji on September 24.
"Currently, the two tiger cubs are under intensive care and close monitoring by our conservation team," said Alex.
Meanwhile, the birth of Bima and Bisma increases the number of Bengal tigers at Taman Safari Indonesia to 17.
"We continue to provide the best care for endangered species, maintain their well-being, and ensure the genetic diversity essential for the global ecosystem," he concluded.
