SEAToday.com, Jakarta - West Java Police Chief Inspector General Akhmad Wiyagus reported that 17 vehicles were involved in an accident at KM 92B of the Cipularang Toll Road in Purwakarta Regency, West Java, on Monday (11/11). As a result of the collision, one person was confirmed dead.

He explained that the West Java Police Traffic Director had inspected the accident site. In addition to the one fatality, he noted that eight people sustained injuries.

"The number of victims is one dead and eight injured, but this will continue to be checked," said Akhmad Wiyagus after attending a working meeting between the National Police and Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta, as reported by ANTARA.

After the meeting in Parliament, he stated that he would head directly to the accident site to assess the situation personally. The location of the accident is indeed known to be a high-risk area.

Earlier, the West Java Regional Police revealed that the multiple-vehicle collision on the Cipularang Toll Road at Kilometer 92 in Purwakarta Regency was allegedly triggered by a heavily loaded truck that experienced brake failure, causing it to crash into more than five vehicles in front of it. The accident occurred at around 3:30 PM local time.

"The brakes failed due to a heavy load, causing it to hit the vehicles in front," said West Java Police Public Relations Head, Senior Commissioner Jules Abraham Abast, in Bandung.

Commissioner Jules mentioned that the West Java Police had deployed around 10 personnel to handle the situation at the scene. These included officers from the National Traffic Police Corps, the West Java Highway Patrol, and personnel from the Purwakarta Traffic Unit.
