The Government to Require PLN to Buy Electricity from Trash-Powered Power Plants
SEAToday.com, Jakarta - The New and Renewable Energy Draft Law (RUU) is under discussion by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Arifin Tasrif, together with Commission IV of the House of Representatives.During this discussion, an essential point to be addressed in the New and Renewable Energy Bill is Waste Power Plants.
Minister Arifin mentioned that in the future, the government will mandate PT PLN (Pesero) to purchase electricity generated from waste power plants. The mechanism for this will be regulated by the government, and the formula for electricity tariffs from waste power plants will be determined later by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources.
The process of converting waste into electrical power aims to enhance public health, improve environmental quality, and utilize waste as a sustainable energy source. This program also involves the co-firing of coal-fired steam power plants (PLTU) using waste.
