SEAToday.com, Gaza - Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas urged Hamas on Wednesday (2/14) to immediately agree to a ceasefire deal with Israel in the Gaza Strip to avoid "terrible consequences." Abbas also compared the possibility of these "terrible consequences" to the Nakba in 1948.

Israel and Hamas have been negotiating a ceasefire to end the conflict that has killed more than 28,000 Palestinians since October 7.

Meanwhile, the United States, the main backer of the Israeli military, said it supported the formation of a Palestinian state, but with a leadership reshuffle.
