SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Amerika Serikat (AS) dan Inggris melancarkan serangan terhadap beberapa target di daerah-daerah yang dikuasai Houthi di Yaman, Kamis (11/1), tulis Presiden Joe Biden dalam sebuah pernyataan.
Pejabat AS mengatakan bahwa target-target serangan termasuk lokasi pertahanan udara dan radar pesisir, tempat penyimpanan dan peluncuran drone dan rudal. Serangan ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan rudal Tomahawk yang diluncurkan dari kapal perang dan kapal selam serta jet tempur.
Serangan ini disebut sebagai respon langsung terhadap serangan Houthi terhadap kapal-kapal internasional di Laut Merah. dan didukung oleh Australia, Bahrain, Kanada, dan Belanda. Serangan ini juga dimaksudkan untuk menyampaikan pesan bahwa AS dan sekutunya tidak mentolerir serangan-serangan di jalur komersial ini.
Disebutkan juga bahwa serangan tersebut dilakukan setelah "kampanye diplomatik yang ekstensif".
