Indonesia Steadfast in Defense of Palestinian Rights at International Court of Justice
SEAToday.com, Bandung - In the 2024 annual press statement at the Merdeka Building, Bandung, Monday (1/8), Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi emphasized that Indonesia is consistent and will continue to fight for the rights of Palestinians, including at the International Court of Justice.
"At the International Court of Justice, on February 19, representing the Indonesian government, i will deliver a statement to support the Court to give an Advisory Opinion to strengthen the legal position of Palestine, which in essence, the UN must not forget the struggle of the Palestinian people, both politically and in international law," said the Foreign Minister.
In addition, Retno Marsudi also highlighted the incapacity of the UN Security Council to stop the ongoing genocide in Gaza.
Previously, on December 29, 2023, South Africa filed a complaint against Israel at the International Court of Justice for committing genocide in Gaza. This lawsuit is the first legal step in the United Nations (UN) court since the humanitarian crisis in Gaza on October 7, 2023.
