Thailand, China to Mutually Waive Visas from March
SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Thailand and China will permanently waive visa requirements for each other's citizens starting March, said Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, Tuesday (1/2).
The Chinese foreign ministry also emphasized that both nations are committed to fostering people-to-people exchanges by mutually exempting visa requirements. The decision came after Thailand introduced a temporary visa waiver for Chinese tourists valid up until this February.
Aside from upgrading the relationship between the two countries, the decision was also to boost the travel between the countries in order to accelerate post-pandemic recovery.
Thailand’s economy relies heavily on tourism. In 2023, Thailand welcomed approximately 28 million foreign tourists, with Malaysia as the top country of origin, followed by China.
