Indonesia Rises to 3rd Place in State of the Global Islamic Economy (SGIE) Report 2023/24
SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Indonesia is ranked third in the Global Islamic Economy Indicator (GIEI) in the latest State of the Global Islamic Economy (SGIE) released by DinarStandart in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on Tuesday (12/26). This achievement rose one rank from last year, when Indonesia ranked fourth in the GIEI Ranking 2022.
Malaysia managed to maintain its position in first place for 10 consecutive years, while second place was achieved by Saudi Arabia. Sharia Economic Community (MES) chairman Erick Thohir said Indonesia made it into the top ten in a number of sectors such as Islamic finance, halal food and beverages, halal fashion cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, and Islamic-themed media and recreation. Indonesia jumped 23 places to sixth in the media and recreation indicators.
Earlier, the SGIE had become a topic of discussion after Gibran Rakabuming questioned Muhaimin Iskandar in the 2024 vice presidential candidate debate last Friday (12/22).
