‘Dukun Kampung’ in Belitung Receives IDR2.4 Million Incentive

SEAToday.com, Bangka Belitung - A total of 120 village shamans received an incentive of IDR2.4 million from the Belitung Regency Government, Bangka Belitung, at the National Building, Tanjung Pandan, on Monday (12/11). The incentive was given in recognition of the preservation of local wisdom in Belitung.

The village shamans have previously undergone a verification process by the Belitung Regency Education and Culture Office and are members of the Belitung Regency Indigenous Shaman Forum.

The deputy regent of Belitung Regency, Isyak Meirobie, said on Wednesday (12/13) that the term “village shaman” does not mean paranormal.

"In Belitung, a village shaman is a customary elder. They are religious figures, culture, local wisdom, customary actors who are called village shamans. This is the uniqueness of Belitung.”
