SEAToday.com, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) has made it illegal to abstain from voting in elections on Saturday (12/16). MUI Center Chairman for Da'wah and Ukhuwah Cholil Nafis said that this refers to a fatwa previously issued by the MUI regarding the obligation to vote for leaders.

Cholil said that people who do not exercise their right to vote are not responsible for running the nation. Therefore, he hopes that in the upcoming 2024 election, people will be able to choose one of the three pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates who are considered ideal to lead Indonesia in the future.

Don’t abstain, SEAtizens!
