Jamu Officially Designated as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity
SEAToday.com, Jakarta - The Jamu Wellness Culture has officially become Indonesia's 13th Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, designated by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The designation was made official at the 18th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in Kasane, Republic of Botswana, on Wednesday (12/6).
In a press release on Wednesday (12/6), Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Nadiem Anwar Makarim said the designation will strengthen Indonesia's efforts to protect and develop Jamu as a cultural heritage as well as contribute to global health and welfare. In addition, Jamu has been an integral part of Indonesian life for centuries.
Previously, Indonesia successfully inscribed 12 other UNESCO World Heritage sites.
