Pertamina Shipping Explains Blue Economy Decarbonization Strategy

SEAToday.com, Dubai - PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) is committed to promoting environmentally friendly shipping for the blue economy. At the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference, or COP28, PIS President Director Yoki Firnandi explained four strategies to reduce emissions.

The first strategy is environmentally friendly ship design, and the second is fleet rejuvenation in accordance with the provisions of the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships and Transportation Minister Regulation No. 29 of 2014 concerning the Termination of Hull Ship Operations. The third strategy is fuel reduction through hull cleaning, optimizing ship operating speed, and the inclusion of energy storage devices. The last strategy is to lower emission intensity, one of which is the Very Large Gas Carrier (VLGC) Pertamina Gas Amarylis.

He also explained that PIS will use bio-blends in its fuels, develop ammonia and hydrogen, and emphasize the importance of technology development to realize all these innovations.
