SEAToday.com, Dubai - Pertamina Hulu Rokan's Innovation at COP28: Artificial Wetlands to Manage Produced Water Waste

PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR) presented its innovation in creating wetlands to manage produced water waste at the 28th UN Climate Change Conference (COP28) in Dubai. This Nature-Based Solution (NBS) innovation is carried out to support the achievement of Net Zero Emission (NZE) 2060.

PHR has constructed a 5,000 m2 artificial wetland in the Rokan Block working area and is developing 14 wetland constructions in its working area. This innovation has reduced emissions by 1,341 tCO2eq and reduced waste water discharge.

PHR also collaborates with local communities to manage the wetlands. Apart from being a waste management activity, these artificial wetlands also provide benefits to the community, such as being a water absorption area that can reduce the risk of flooding.
