SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Bank Indonesia (BI) has revoked and withdrawn three types of rupiah bills from circulation, starting December 1, 2023. The withdrawn money includes metal rupiah notes or coins with denominations of IDR500 Year of Emission (TE) 1991, IDR1,000 TE 1993, and IDR500 TE 1997.
Executive Director/Head of the Communication Department of BI Erwin Haryono explained that this withdrawal was carried out, considering the length of the circulation period and technological developments in materials.
People who still have this type of money, can exchange it with the same nominal money, up to 10 years from the date of revocation or until December 1, 2033. The exchange can be done at commercial banks and the Head Office or Representative Office of Bank Indonesia. For exchange at Bank Indonesia, an exchange order must be made in advance through the PINTAR application.
