Joint Statement on ASEAN-Korea Comprehensive Strategic Partnership

SEAToday.com, Jakarta – Marking the 35th anniversary of ASEAN-Republic of Korea (ROK) Dialogue Relations, the ASEAN-ROK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) was officially launched at the 25th ASEAN-ROK Summit in Vientiane, Lao PDR, on October 10.

“With the establishment of the CSP, we have introduced our ABC vision: advancing partnerships in security and peace, building collaboration for a greener, connected, and sustainable future, and creating opportunities for future generations,” said H.E. Lee Jang-keun, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to ASEAN, at a press conference in Jakarta on October 21. He further highlighted that the CSP will be supported by the 100 ABC project, which aligns with the three pillars of the ASEAN community. "We will implement several programs to bring the CSP vision to life," Lee added.

In celebration of this milestone, a series of events and initiatives spanning diverse fields will take place in Jakarta. These include cultural showcases like the “We Are One” Musical Shadow Art Performance, the 2024 ASEAN-Korea Film Festival, as well as forward-looking programs such as an Electric Vehicle Factory Visit and the ASEAN Electric Vehicle Ecosystem Roundtable.

"We Are One" Musical Shadow Art Performance

To promote cultural harmony between ASEAN and Korea, the Mission of the Republic of Korea to ASEAN will host the “We Are One” Musical Shadow Art Performance at the Ciputra Artpreneur Theatre in Jakarta on October 31, 2024.

This unique event blends traditional and modern music, accompanied by visually stunning shadow art, to celebrate unity and cultural exchange. The performance will feature Korea’s traditional creative music group, Goback Project, and the Shadow Art Performance Group, Magic Play.

2024 ASEAN-Korea Film Festival

The much-anticipated annual ASEAN-Korea Film Festival returns this November, offering a platform to strengthen cultural ties between Korea and ASEAN nations.

Held at CGV Pacific Place in Jakarta from November 13–16, 2024, the festival will feature eight captivating films from both Korea and ASEAN countries. Among the highlights are the South Korean musical drama "Victory," starring Girl's Day member Lee Hye-ri, and the Indonesian adaptation of the popular Korean movie "My Annoying Brother."

Electric Vehicle Factory Visit and ASEAN EV Ecosystem Roundtable

As part of its growing leadership in the electric vehicle (EV) industry, Korea is enhancing collaboration with ASEAN nations to foster the development of the EV ecosystem across the region.

On November 4, 2024, key stakeholders from ASEAN will participate in an Electric Vehicle Factory Visit to Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Indonesia, followed by the ASEAN Electric Vehicle Ecosystem Roundtable. These events aim to gather insights, recommendations, and strategies for strengthening the EV industry in Southeast Asia, reinforcing ROK’s commitment to a greener future.

The ASEAN-ROK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership opens new avenues for cooperation, bringing together diverse sectors and communities and paving the way for the region's sustainable and prosperous future.
