Indonesia-Vietnam Defense Ties Highlighted at Vietnam People's Army Anniversary in Jakarta

SEAToday.com, Jakarta - The Vietnamese Embassy in Jakarta marked the 80th anniversary of the Vietnam People's Army (VPA) and 35 years of the All-People Defence Festival on December 5, emphasizing the growing strategic partnership between Vietnam and Indonesia through defense cooperation.
The event drew Indonesian officials, ambassadors, and defense attachés from numerous nations, alongside representatives of the Vietnamese community in Indonesia. Vietnamese Ambassador Ta Van Thong emphasized the VPA’s 80-year legacy of safeguarding peace and stability, rooted in Vietnam's rich history of nation-building and defense. He highlighted Vietnam's defense diplomacy, which has fostered international partnerships with over 100 nations and active participation in United Nations peacekeeping missions since 2014.
Senior Colonel Nguyen Tuan Duc, Vietnam’s Defense Attaché in Indonesia, praised the deepening defense cooperation between Indonesia and Vietnam. Anchored in a 2010 Memorandum of Understanding, collaborations have expanded to include joint dialogues, intelligence exchanges, and military-to-military engagements such as Navy and Air Force talks. These efforts underscore defense ties as a pillar of the broader Vietnam-Indonesia strategic partnership.
Duc expressed optimism for further strengthening bilateral defense relations, contributing to regional peace and prosperity. A photo exhibition showcasing Vietnam’s cultural heritage and its multifaceted partnership with Indonesia was also featured at the event.
The ceremony reaffirmed the commitment of both nations to advancing cooperation, highlighting defense diplomacy as a key driver of their enduring relationship.
