SEAToday.com, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) stated that all Indonesian citizens in Iran are safe and secure.

“The Indonesian Embassy in Tehran has established communication with Indonesian citizens to monitor their condition. All are safe and secure,” according to a written statement from the Ministry's Directorate of Indonesian Citizen Protection (PWNI) here on Saturday.

According to the statement, the number of Indonesian citizens currently living in Iran totals 392 people.

The Indonesian Embassy in Tehran is currently maintaining the Alert II status that has been set since April 2024.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Indonesian Representatives in the Middle East are closely observing the escalation of the security situation in Iran and surrounding countries after the Israeli airstrikes on October 26, 2024.

“The Israeli attack targeted Iranian military centers in Tehran, Ilam and Kuzestan,” he said.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs again urged Indonesian citizens in Iran, Israel and Lebanon to increase vigilance and caution, reduce unnecessary movements and stay away from vulnerable locations.

They also urge Indonesian citizens to follow the information and directions for contingency protection of Indonesian citizens that have been prepared by the Indonesian Representative in the local country.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also appealed specifically to Indonesian citizens who have travel plans to Iran, Israel, Lebanon, Palestine and Yemen to postpone their trips until the situation is declared safe.

In addition, Indonesian citizens who have flight plans that cross the Middle East region are asked to anticipate airspace closures and flight cancellations and always monitor flight availability with airlines.

In case of emergency, Indonesian citizens can immediately contact the hotline number of the nearest Indonesian Representative:

Indonesian Embassy in Tehran: +989024668889
Indonesian Embassy in Amman (covering the Palestinian territories): +962779150407
Indonesian Embassy in Beirut: +96170817310
Embassy in Baghdad: +9647503979642
Embassy in Damascus: +963954444810
Embassy in Cairo: +201022229989
Embassy in Muscat (Yemen): +96896000210

On Saturday (26/10) morning, Israel carried out airstrikes against Iranian military facilities in retaliation for Iran's missile attack on Israel on October 1.

The October 1 Iranian missile attack was in retaliation for the assassination of Hamas' political leader in Tehran in July and the assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in Beirut last month.

Meanwhile, Iran's Foreign Ministry said Saturday that based on its inherent right to legitimate defense, which is also enshrined in Article 51 of the UN Charter, Iran has the right and obligation to defend itself against Israeli aggression.
