SEAToday.com, Balikpapan - President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi) invites all countries and the United Nations (UN) to respond quickly regarding Israel's attack on Lebanon.

“We urge all countries and the United Nations to respond immediately so that there will not be many victims of the Israeli attack,” Jokowi said in Balikpapan City, East Kalimantan Province, Thursday (9/26).

Indonesia also strongly condemns the Israeli attack on Lebanon which caused many casualties.

President Jokowi stated that the Indonesian government will repatriate Indonesian citizens (WNI) who are in the Lebanese conflict zone.

“I have called the Minister of Foreign Affairs for the repatriation of Indonesian citizens in the conflict zone, and it is currently in process,” Jokowi explained.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi earlier responded to the Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon that were launched on Monday (23/9) and continued until Tuesday (24/9).

“We see the situation and strongly condemn the Israeli attacks on Lebanon which resulted in the loss of hundreds of civilian lives, including children,” she explained.

The response was delivered by Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi on the sidelines of the 79th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York, United States, Tuesday (24/9) local time.

Retno said that the attack added tension to the situation in the Middle East, which has become a humanitarian crisis due to the atrocities committed by Israel against the Palestinians.

“Violence and aggression must not become the new normal,” he said.

According to a Lebanese government report, until Tuesday (24/9) the death toll had reached 558 with more than a thousand people injured.
