SEAToday.com, Jakarta - The Catholic Church Leader Pope Francis said that Indonesia’s diversity should be an example for the world. This was revealed by Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi, after accompanying President Joko Widodo's meeting with the Pope at the Merdeka Palace on Wednesday (9/4).

“The Pope said that Indonesia has extraordinary diversity and can be a model for the world where this diversity can actually exist to create a peaceful life,” said Minister Retno.

The Pope is said to have stated that diversity is a gift and emphasized that all human beings are brothers and sisters. In addition, the Pope also said that a war is a defeat.

Previously in his speech during the meeting with the president, Pope Francis also praised the Indonesian motto “Bhinneka Tunggal Ika”. He said that the differences are a source of richness and beauty where each element is irreplaceable.
