SEAToday.com, Uttar Pradesh-Pengadilan India memutuskan untuk melarang madrasah atau sekolah Islam untuk beroperasi. Dilansir dari Reuters, Pengadilan Tinggi Allahabad pada hari Jumat (22/3) membatalkan undang-undang tahun 2004 yang mengatur madrasah di negara bagian Uttar Pradesh.
Hakim Subhash Vidyarthi dan Vivek Chaudhary mengatakan dalam keputusan mereka, “Pemerintah negara bagian juga harus memastikan bahwa anak-anak berusia antara 6 hingga 14 tahun dapat diterima di sekolah-sekolah yang diakui oleh negara.”
Keputusan ini diambil karena undang-undang tersebut dikatakan melanggar sekularisme konstitusional India dan para siswa madrasah diarahkan untuk dipindahkan ke sekolah-sekolah konvensional. Kepala dewan pendidikan madrasah di Uttar Pradesh Iftikhar Ahmed Javed mengatakan bahwa perintah tersebut berdampak pada 2,7 juta siswa dan 10,000 guru di 25,000 madrasah yang tersebar di Uttar Pradesh.
Keputusan ini juga akan semakin menjauhkan banyak Muslim dari pemerintahan nasionalis Hindu Perdana Menteri Narendra Modi menjelang pemilihan umum nasional yang direncanakan akan diadakan antara bulan April dan Juni. (GHINA/DKD)
