567 Foreigners Has Been Detained in Malaysia for Violating Immigration Rules

SEAToday.com, Kuala Lumpur-The Malaysian immigration department has detained 567 foreign nationals for various immigration violations such as not having valid travel documents.The operation has been conducted at an apartment located in Abdullah Hukum, Bangsar.

Kuala Lumpur Immigration Director Syamsul Badrin Mohshin said the three-hour operation was carried out after a week of intelligence gathering, in response to complaints from residents about the influx of foreigners in the area.

The overall composition of the total foreigners detained includes 252 Bangladeshis,163 Nepalese, 75 Myanmarese, 72 Indonesians, 4 Filipinos, and 1 Indian national.

A preliminary investigation found that the foreigners live in homes where eight to ten individuals share a unit with monthly rentals starting at 1000 Malaysian ringgit.

Director Mohshin also stated all those detained are believed to have committed offenses under section 6-1-C which involves not having proper identification documents, section 15-1-C which pertains to overstaying, and section 56-1-L of the immigration act 1959-1963, for using forged travel documents.

He further added that all the foreigners aged between four months and 55 years have been taken to the immigration detention depot in Bukit Jalil for further investigation.
