SEAToday.com, Jakarta - The government has confirmed that certain sections of the Solo-Yogyakarta-Yogyakarta International Airport (NYIA) Kulon Progo Toll Road will be partially operational during the 2025 Eid homecoming season.
Minister of Public Works, Dody Hanggodo, stated that this initiative aims to enhance connectivity in Central Java and the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) while alleviating congestion on major routes during the holiday period.
"God willing, it can be functional for Eid 2025," said Dody in Jakarta on Monday (2/23).
One of the critical points of concern is the Klaten-Prambanan section, which often experiences severe traffic jams during peak holiday seasons. Therefore, although the toll road is not yet fully operational, the government plans to open the 6.7 km Prambanan-Purwomartani segment temporarily to ease traffic flow.
"Our focus is on reducing congestion at the Prambanan toll exit, which has long been a traffic bottleneck," Dody added.
However, he reminded travelers that the toll road is still under construction, urging caution for those passing through. "We advise drivers to always follow traffic regulations and prioritize safety during their journey," he said.
With this alternative route, the government hopes that the 2025 Eid homecoming journey will be smoother for those traveling along the Solo-Yogyakarta-Kulon Progo corridor.
Out of the total 11.48 km Prambanan-Purwomartani stretch, only lane B will be opened, and it will be designated for Class I vehicles. This section is scheduled to operate from 06:00 AM to 06:00 PM, though the schedule may be adjusted at the discretion of the police. A temporary toll exit will be placed at LPMP Road in Sleman Regency.
Based on the experience during the 2024 Christmas and New Year holidays, the Klaten-Prambanan section experienced severe congestion due to the high volume of vehicles. Therefore, the opening of the Prambanan-Purwomartani toll road is expected to provide a smoother alternative for travel between Solo and Yogyakarta.
As of now, 22.3 km of the 96.5 km Solo-Yogyakarta-NYIA Toll Road is fully operational. During the 2025 Eid homecoming season, the 8.6 km Klaten-Prambanan section will be fully functional, while the 6.7 km Prambanan-Purwomartani section will be partially operational.
