SEAToday.com, Rome - Pope Francis remains in critical condition and has not fully recovered from danger, according to a medical report released by the Vatican Press Office on Saturday (2/22) night local time.

The report stated that the Pope experienced breathing difficulties in the morning due to prolonged asthma, requiring high-flow oxygen support.

Blood test results conducted on Saturday showed signs of thrombocytopenia, a condition related to anemia, which necessitated a blood transfusion for treatment.

Although he remains conscious and able to sit in a chair, the Pope’s condition is reported to be weaker than the previous day.

Since last Friday (2/14), Pope Francis has been undergoing treatment at Agostino Gemelli Hospital in Rome due to bronchitis, which later developed into pneumonia in both lungs.

On Friday afternoon (2/21), the head of the medical team treating the Pope, Professor Sergio Alfieri, stated that while the Pope’s condition has not fully improved, there is currently no immediate threat to his life.

“He is still not out of danger,” Alfieri said during a press conference at Agostino Gemelli Hospital. “However, his condition is stable, and his life is not in immediate danger.”

Alfieri also explained that the Pope’s lung infection remains a primary concern, with the greatest risk being the potential development of severe complications such as a bloodstream infection or sepsis.
