National Library Cancels Service Hour Reduction, Remains Open on Sundays

SEAToday.com, Jakarta - The National Library (Perpusnas) has canceled its plan to reduce operating hours following public feedback and concerns over budget efficiency measures.
In an official statement via its Instagram account @perpusnas.go.id, Perpusnas acknowledged the public’s input and expressed appreciation for the enthusiastic responses urging the extension of library hours.
"We hereby inform you that this morning's announcement regarding changes in service hours at the National Library has been corrected and is no longer valid," the statement read.
With this decision, the National Library will maintain its regular operational hours:
- Monday–Friday: 08.00–19.00 WIB
- Saturday–Sunday: 09.00–16.00 WIB
Earlier, on Friday (7/2) morning, Perpusnas had announced a reduction in service hours as part of the government’s budget efficiency policy for ministries and institutions in 2025. The initial plan proposed reducing weekday operating hours and closing the library on Sundays and national holidays. However, the policy was retracted later that afternoon.
The proposed reduction was in response to Presidential Instruction (Inpres) Number 1 of 2025, issued by President Prabowo Subianto, which mandates budget savings of Rp306.69 trillion across ministries, institutions, and regional fund allocations. The savings are intended to support the administration’s priority programs, including free nutritious meals.
