Google Displays IDR 8,170 per US Dollar Exchange Rate, Suspected Error

SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Internet users were surprised when a Google search showed the rupiah exchange rate at IDR 8,170.65 per US dollar on Saturday (2/1) afternoon. It is suspected that this figure appeared due to a system error.

Based on ANTARA’s monitoring, this number appeared when users searched for keywords like "USD to IDR" and "dollar exchange rate" on Google.

Responding to this, Bank Indonesia’s (BI) Head of Communications Department, Ramdan Denny Prakoso, clarified that the IDR 8,100 per US dollar exchange rate displayed on Google does not reflect the actual value.

According to official data from Bank Indonesia, the rupiah exchange rate as of January 31, 2025, was recorded at IDR 16,312 per US dollar.

"We are currently coordinating with Google Indonesia to rectify this discrepancy as soon as possible," said Ramdan.

For reference, at the close of trading on Friday (1/31), the rupiah actually weakened by 49 points or 0.30 percent to IDR 16,305 per US dollar, down from the previous IDR 16,257 per US dollar.

Meanwhile, Bank Indonesia's Jakarta Interbank Spot Dollar Rate (JISDOR) also showed a weakening to IDR 16,312 per US dollar, compared to the previous IDR 16,259 per US dollar.
